These are the fixed wings we have going this year. The skycrane is still stuck on the wharf due to ongoing strikes. The pilots of the Bells are getting the shits with people getting close during operations, so if you do happen to be in the area give them as much room as you can and remember the pilots are concentrating on a thousand things at once and they don't need onlookers to be distracting them (like the kids in the background). There's a huge wow-factor with these but they are working and low flying is extremely dangerous. If something went wrong (which is always possible) the danger zone is very large.

Just had a look and you could imagine how frustrating that would be for them! The advantage of the choppers over the fixed wings is the ability to reload from random water sources like that. Having to divert for safety reasons resulting from on-lookers in the danger zone significantly drops efficiency and risks lives and properties.
There's a lot of humour in aviation ;)

Jase have you spotted 671 yet? Looks awesome with the Aussie flag painted down the blue part of the tail.
Its only a matter of time before someone is injured by flying debris from the Helitacs filling out of suburban lakes. Then some random do gooders will get all over Today Tonight dribbling shit about how the Helitacs should fill up elsewhere. It is possible to set up a portable collar tank and fill it from the heavy tankers on the fire ground but its very time consuming plus the collar tank only holds 3000ltr.
I know the skycrane is based up at Serpentine but is it flying yet? It was due to start on the 22/12
yeah you can see 671 parked up on the left in that video mike, agreed looks good! yeah i believe its ready for service, its parked up at serpentine now..
Think i might invest in a proper camera rather than using my phone haha
not the best pics but thats 671 dropping near us at the Casurina fire last week

I could of got more but you know.... was busy squirting the wet stuff on the hot stuff
hahahaha nice mate, i didnt know you were there, i was on mortimer rd for a while watching them drop.
Yeah 671 was protecting a house on the east side and we were stopping the fire from approaching the dam that the Helitacs were filling from lol
Was watching them in traffic on the freeway the other day when the fire was in Casuarina, filling up right next to the freeway from a swamp. Pretty awesome watching them bank away to the fire.
I think Dfes need to do some sort of awareness campaign in the offseason about the dangers of these things and the stress the pilots are under when flying so low and hovering etc. Watching kids sending their kids up for photos etc is bloody terrifying.. Knowing how much these fuckers save your ass at times when on the end of a hose delays to go further for water are not needed!!
Got to have a squizz in the air intel chopper the other day... Wouldnt like to have to sit in the back for a long time!
yeah its going to happen sooner or later
Yeah sooner rather than later I hope, it's all good and we'll but people just need to keep their distance. Hahaha whys that fozzy? I'd love to get up in one see how things work.

Latest episode of Binky for those who love to watch but forget to follow. Wish these guys got picked up by an actual production company.
Looking forward to all their fab work in the engine bay, hopefully that is the next couple of episodes.
